专利说明:

[001] The present invention relates to a thread, especially for use as a suture thread.
[002] The surgery of a surgical nature performed more frequently in an operating room and in an outpatient clinical surgery and certainly that of the suture by wire. Despite the frequency and "historicity" of using sutures, the methods of in situ blocking of their ends have not yet been optimized. In particular, the purpose of securing one end of the yarn against a portion of biological tissue, the same yarn is generally tied to itself.
[003] However, this blocking method is intrinsically less reliable, since the knot, over time, tends to fall apart, which implies that for each suture operation that is proven necessary during surgery, the operator and is obliged to make a large number of nodes in sequence. Thus, the suture operation as a whole, performed using the technique of knotting, requires time that cannot be disregarded, which significantly affects the total duration of the intervention, with the consequences associated with the patient's well-being.
[004] Therefore, the problem of the technique defined and solved by the present invention is that of providing a thread - and, in particular, a suture thread - that will overcome the disadvantages mentioned above with reference to the known technique.
[005] This problem is solved by means of a wire according to claim 1.
[006] The preferred features of the present invention are defined in the claims dependent on it.
[007] The present invention provides some important advantages. The main advantage lies in the fact that the wire of the present invention, being equipped with a cap included in correspondence with a longitudinal end of the wire itself, allows to reduce the surgical time, eliminating the need to make several knots, and, concomitantly, increasing the reliability of the sutures, since the block is not subject to the inconvenience of loosening. In addition, by eliminating the need to tie the main body of the yarn to itself, the present invention allows for a greater variety of choice for the level of stiffness of this yarn and for the materials it is made of, thus allowing to suit any type need for suture and surgery.
[008] Other advantages, features and operating steps of the present invention will become apparent in the detailed DESCRIPTION of some modalities of the same, as follows, presented by way of example and not for limiting purposes. In the following, reference will be made to the figures in the accompanying drawings, in which: ■ figure 1 shows a perspective view of a first preferred embodiment of the suture according to the present invention; ■ figure 1A shows an enlarged view of a detail of the thread of figure 1; ■ figure 2 shows a perspective view of a second preferred embodiment of the suture according to the present invention; ■ figure 3 shows a perspective view of the suture of figure 1, in use during surgery, and Figures 4A, 4B and 4C show schematic front views illustrating three respective steps of a preferred method for manufacturing the suture of Figure 1.
[009] Initially, with reference to figures 1 and 1A, a suture thread according to a first preferred embodiment of the present invention and generally indicated by the reference number 1.
[0010] The thread 1 comprises, first of all, an elongated main body 2 having simply a thread shape. The main body 2 is preferably flexible and extends in a straight configuration and extends along a longitudinal geometric axis A.
[0011] On the main body 2, preferably, retaining spikes 4 are provided, that is, portions of threads arranged obliquely in relation to the predominant direction of development of the main body 2 and able, due to the said inclination, to engage the suture of tissue by the thread itself in order to prevent the thread from unscrewing along a certain drag direction. In addition, the length and thickness of the ears 4 can be selected depending on the selected slope of cut.
[0012] The ears 4 can be applied on the main body 2, in a monolateral way, as in the example illustrated, or in a plurilateral way. In both cases, they can be manufactured in a monodirectional manner, as in the example shown, or in a pluridirectional manner, that is, having a slope along a single direction or along several divergent directions. In addition, the ears 4 can be applied over the main body 2, even along a helical path or a spiral path.
[0013] In correspondence with a first longitudinal end 21 of the main body 2, the wire 1 provides a stopper 3 provided with an enlarged section in relation to the main body 2 itself.
[0014] Preferably, the cap 3 is substantially cylindrical in shape, preferably with a cylinder axis aligned with the axis A of the main body 2.
[0015] Always according to a preferred embodiment, the plug 3 has a diameter D of about 4 mm and a thickness S comprised in a range of about 1 to 2 mm.
[0016] During suturing, and as shown in figure 3, the plug 3, by virtue of its own enlarged section with respect to the main body 2, can block the corresponding longitudinal end 21 of the body in juxtaposition against a fabric flap.
[0017] The main body 2 and the cover 3 can be made of the same material or of different materials, preferably of an absorbable synthetic type.
[0018] In the present example, the cap 3 and / or the main body 2 can be made of a material selected from a group consisting of: glycolide polymer (PGA), glycolide and lactide copolymer (PGLA), poly (p -dioxanone) (PDO), copolymer of glycolide and epsilon-caprolactone (PGCL), and copolymer of poly (l-lactide) and epsilon-caprolactone P (LA-CL).
[0019] The cap 3 can be fixed to the main body 2 by means of heat sealing.
[0020] In particular, a preferred embodiment schematically illustrated in figures 4A, 4B and 4C provides that the cap 3 is made by melting a polymer of poly (p-dioxanone) in suitable molds 60 of a cylindrical shape, with the above-mentioned dimensions preferably made in the form of openings molded in a metal plate 61 seated on a board 62 heated to about 130 ° C.
[0021] The connection between the plug 3 and the main body 2 is then obtained through the following steps: - sealing the "free" end 21 of the wire in the polymer paste still fused in the mold 60 (the correct positioning of the wire in the center of the cylindrical element it can be guaranteed by a grinding device positioned on the plate 61) - this step is shown schematically in figure 4A; - removal of the metal plate 61 from the heated plate 62, in order to obtain the cooling of the plate in si - this step is shown schematically in figure 4B; e- separation of the metal plate cover - this step is shown schematically in figure 4C.
[0022] Advantageously, the thread 1 is then previously arranged, in correspondence with a second longitudinal end 22 of the main body 2 opposite the end associated with the plug 3, with a suture needle 5 having a substantially straight or curved shape. This needle can be made of stainless steel (for example, AISI 300 series or AISI 400 series).
[0023] According to a second preferred embodiment shown in figure 2, a suture thread, indicated in the present document with the reference numeral 100, has a main body, indicated in the present document with the reference numeral 200, which comprises a pair of wire-shaped elements 201, 202, capable of defining a structure in general in the form of a ring or of the wire circuit type itself.
The thread 100 comprises a plug 3 analogous to that already described above, and in this case also the same and previously disposed with a suture needle, in this case substantially straight, indicated by the reference numeral 50.
[0025] It should be understood that a plurality of sutures, each as described above with reference to figures 1 and 2, can be provided in various calibers, preferably within the range of USP 6/0 - 8, and in various lengths.
[0026] It should also be understood that a plurality of sutures, each as described above with reference to figures 1 and 2, can be provided in the form of a coil. In particular, in this case, the wires will be arranged in a longitudinal sequence and removably connected in correspondence with their respective ends.
[0027] It should be understood that, although the present invention has been described with specific reference to suture applications, it can also be advantageously used for any type of surgical need, in which the use of a thread to be blocked in situ it becomes necessary.
[0028] In addition, in a broader sense, the present invention can also find application in a field other than surgery, for example, in the field of sewing threads, and especially in specialized areas, such as in the field of sewing or needle points of technical fabrics, such as for use in fishing, motorcycling, etc.
[0029] The present invention has been described above with reference to the preferred embodiments thereof. It must be understood that other modalities may exist, all falling within the concept of the same invention, as defined by the scope of protection of the following claims.
